Questions and answers
Why does the price in SE3 rise when nuclear plants are offline?
SE3, from Stockholm and Uppsala to Gothenburg and Värmland, is where most Swedes live and where the nuclear plants Forsmark, Ringhals and Oskarshamn stand. With the reactors running and hydropower flowing from the north, SE3 often has the same price as SE2. When reactors stop for maintenance or faults, SE3 has to import more, and its price can climb towards the SE4 price.
Why does the price change every 15 minutes?
Since 1 October 2025 the day-ahead market sets a price for every quarter hour instead of every hour. The hourly price in the table is the average of the four quarters.
Which price area (elområde) am I in?
It depends on where you live. SE1 is roughly Norrbotten, SE2 the rest of Norrland, SE3 central Sweden with Stockholm and Gothenburg, and SE4 the far south with Skåne. Your elområde is on your bill; if you live near a border, your grid company can tell you.
Do the prices include VAT?
Use the switch to see prices with or without 25% VAT (moms). In Sweden VAT is also paid on the grid fee and on the energy tax.
