Questions and answers
Why is NO2 often the most expensive area in Norway?
NO2, with Agder, Rogaland, Vestfold and Telemark, has all of Norway's cables to the Continent and the UK: NordLink to Germany, NorNed to the Netherlands, North Sea Link to the UK and Skagerrak to Denmark. When power is expensive in those countries, the cables pull NO2 up, and the producers here value the water in their large reservoirs by what it could earn abroad. On windy days in northern Europe the same cables make NO2 cheap.
Why does the price change every 15 minutes?
Since 1 October 2025 the day-ahead market sets a price for every quarter hour instead of every hour. The hourly price in the table is the average of the four quarters. Strømstøtte and Norgespris are still worked out hour by hour.
Do the prices include VAT?
In NO1, NO2, NO3 and NO5 the switch shows prices with or without 25% VAT. Households in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark pay no VAT on electricity, so NO4 prices are shown without it and have no switch; the part of Trøndelag in NO4 pays VAT.
What is strømstøtte, and what does "after strømstøtte" mean?
If you don't have Norgespris, you get strømstøtte (electricity support) automatically. In 2026 the state covers 90% of the spot price above 77 øre/kWh excl. VAT (96.25 øre incl. VAT), hour by hour, for up to 5,000 kWh a month, and deducts it on your grid bill. The average "after strømstøtte" on the zone pages is what you then pay for the energy itself, before your supplier's mark-up.
